A new YouTube video called "Truth and Lies About Search Engine Optimization", found in an article entitled "Can you improve my website's search engine rankings?", explains in just 15 minutes not only how most SEO experts lie, but also how you can prove to yourself that they are lying. The video also helps you understand what's realistic and what you can really do to help yourself with your website.
Presenter Walt Thiessen explains in simple terms how search engines really work and why SEO experts who claim they can manipulate the search rankings to put you at the top of the rankings are simply lying through their teeth 99.9% of the time. What amazes me even more is how so many of them fail to emphasize the importance of interlinking the content pages of your web site.
The appeal of such claims, of course, is understandable. Business people now realize the extraordinary power of the web and of being listed #1 in the search engines for their best keyword phrases. With more and more people shopping these days by searching online for what they want, small businesses of all kinds want a piece of that extraordinary market action. Particularly, they also want to rank well in Google Places, which shows up more and more frequently in the so-called "organic" listings of Google.
The reality is that most won't get there, and the video explains why in convincing terms. No matter how much search engine optimizing you do, there are no guarantees you'll get that #1 position.
Does that mean that you have no hope if you can't get your business ranked #1 in the search engines? Hardly. It merely means that the ones who are listed #1 will get the largest market share. They won't get all of it...not even close. It also means that those who present the best content and receive the most attention from other websites in the same field will reach the highest positions in the search results.
If you really want to understand the search engines, including Google Places, you must watch this video!
